Drive pass Ruka and about 6,5 km after passing Ruka, turn left onto the road going to Kitka. Riisitunturi National Park has been on my bucket list for years. Having seen incredible pictures of trees heavy with crown snow (tykkylumi in Finnish) from Riisitunturi, I also wanted to see if the rumours of far-reaching views over Lapland you had from the Riisitunturi fell. Really beautiful route, feels like in Lapland. Riisitunturi National Park is 60km from Kuusamo airport which is the closest airport to the national park. There are colourful hanging bogs on the slopes of the Riisitunturi Fell and scenery over the Lakes Kitkajärvet and the forest landscape of Posio. Riisitunturi’s national park provides several day hikes to the top of the fell. The nature is different than in Ruka routes. Riisitunturi National Park is in the southern part of Finnish Lapland near Posio.The park covers an area of 77 km² and represents the fell and hill landscapes in Koillismaa. The track is fairly easy. Cross-country skiing . The track starts from Korpihilla Café's parking lot and ends to the fell hut on top of Riisitunturi. Drive on road 5 (E63) towards Ruka and Kemijärvi for about 31 km. The hike is especially nice during winter time. It starts from Riisitunturi starting point. From mid January to late April there is a 7km long, maintained ski track in the National Park.
